CAT S61 Goes Official With An FLIR Thermal Camera

CatS61-Snow

CAT Phones officially announce the next-gen CAT S61 flagship smartphone, the device is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. It is the successor to the CAT S60 and came up with enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability (temperature range from -20°C to 400°C (-4°F—752°F)), built-in laser assisted distance measuring and an indoor air quality sensor.

The company is referring its new flagship smartphone an ‘advanced tool’ – this should tell you something.

CatS61-InhandMyFlir app has also been updated which will let you live stream thermal video in higher resolution (from VGA up to HD). As we mentioned above the device come with built-in laser assisted distance measuring tool which can measure point-to-point distance up to 10m (33ft) and calculate the area. The best thing is that this tool saves all the data so that alternative measurement estimates can be taken even if you have left the site.

The indoor quality sensor will help you track Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), including paints, solvents, cleaning products and more. The CAT S61 will alert you when it detects an unhealthy environment.

Peter Stephens, CEO Bullitt Group, global mobile device licensee for Caterpillar, said:
“We know that 60% of Cat S60 customers use the integrated thermal camera at least once per week and the temperature and resolution improvements found in the new Cat S61 will open up thermal imaging to many more users and use cases. Packing in even more genuinely useful tools of the trade means there’s simply no other smartphone out there that can do everything the S61 can. We are incredibly proud of it.”

On the front side of the CAT 61, there’s a large 5.2” FHD screen on top of that there’s a Gorilla Glass 5 guarding the screen. The device is  IP68 dustproof and waterproof up to 3m for 1 hour. It can survive repeated drop-tests onto concrete from 1.8m thanks to the MIL Spec 810G.

The device is powered by a Snapdragon 630 processor which is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage (expandable via microSD). To keep the lights of the device on the company has embedded a 4,500mAh battery which supports QuickCharge 4.0 (over USB-C).
