The long-awaited ‘Dark Mode’ for WhatsApp is now live. For quite some time, the feature was under testing mode. Now the most requested feature is officially available for both Android and iOS platforms.
WhatsApp in a blog post – source link provided below – stated that the update has just started rolling out and will be available for the non-beta testers very soon.
‘Dark Mode’ will not only give the fresh look to the existing application but is “designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments“, and “prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room“.
Whilst designing the ‘Dark Mode’, the company spent most of its time and focus on Readability and Information Hierarchy.
Readability: When choosing colors, we wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colors that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.
Information Hierarchy: We wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. We did this by using color and other design elements to make sure the most important information stands out.
If you are running an Android 10 or iOS 13 devices you can enable the dark mode by simply heading over to the system settings. And for those users who are running Android 9 and below can go into the Setting’s of WhatsApp > Chats > Themes > select ‘Dark’.
