Apple today at it’s iPhone 2018 launch event officially lifted the veil of the next-gen iPhone models, dubbed as the iPhone XS and XS Max. Both carry the same design aesthetics as that of the predecessor iPhone X. But under the hood, there’s a new A12 Bionic chip which is companies first 7nm chipset to hit the market.
Still, there’s no place for a fingerprint reader, and one has to rely on the Face ID.
Apple iPhone XS Max
This is one of the most elegant iPhone. It comes with a huge 6.5″ AMOLED display panel – which is largest screen size in iPhone history. The screen has the tall 19:5:9 aspect ratio with a notch at the top.
As you can see in the picture above, the new iPhone’s along with the iPhone 8 Plus – smaller design plus size display.
The new “Super Retina” AMOLED display has a resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels and a pixel density of 458ppi. HDR10 and Dolby vision support is still there with a 60% increase in dynamic range.
The only way to unlock the device is via Face ID – it’s the only biometric authentication method one has to rely on.
The 2018 iPhone models came up with an all-new revamped camera sensors. This Max variant has the dual-camera 12MP setup – the main sensor is the wide-angle shooter with a pixel size of 1.4m (up from 1.22µm) with the same f/1.8 aperture.
The other sensor is the telephoto one which uses a 12MP sensor, f/2.4 lens with 2x optical zoom (and it has OIS).
Now you can adjust the depth of field after taking a photo thanks to the updated bokeh rendering. The new chipset has been put to use in the Smart HDR feature. It starts with zero shutter lag, the camera captures a 4 frame buffer.
On the front, there’s the same 7MP RPG sensor whose speed has now been improved. Video recording now has a wider dynamic range and supports stereo speakers.
This new iPhone has the same three storage options to choose from – the base one being the 64GB, then 256GB and the highest capacity has now gone up to 512GB. The device is also IP68 certified.
Apple iPhone XS
This is the standard variant of the 2018’s iPhone. This one also comes with the new A12 Bionic chipset so it will also have the 512GB as the highest storage option, the 64GB the base one and 256GB for the middle version.
As we mentioned above this new chips is Apple’s first 7nm chip which features a 6-core design (2 big + 4 small), plus a 4-core GPU and a new 8-core neural engine, which add up to a whopping 6.9 billion transistors. All Apple-designed.
The new chip cores are 5% faster and 40% more power efficient. And the GPU now offers 50% higher performance and higher memory bandwidth.
The front panel is the same AMOLED display with the screen size of 5.8″.
Color option for both the variants includes – silver and space gray. Although, there’s a Gold version as well for the iPhone XS.
The device will be available in two slots:
