On July 18, 2018, Corning Incorporated officially introduces the next-gen Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The scientists over at Corning headquarters have developed and engineered an “entirely new material” that would better survive multiple drops.
According to the recent worldwide Toluna study, on average, people drop their phones seven times a year, with more than 50 percent of the drops occurring at 1 meter or below. And this new sixth gen glass was able to survive 15 drops from 1 meter onto rough surfaces which is up to two times better than Gorilla Glass 5. Under the same test conditions.
Gorilla Glass 6 is an entirely new glass composition that can be chemically strengthened to give it significantly higher levels of compression than is possible with Gorilla Glass 5. This enables Gorilla Glass 6 to be more resistant to damage, – John Bayne, Vice President, Corning Gorilla Glass
Corning has also shared that they have already designed their glass into more than 6 billion devices by more than 45 major brands. And this newly introduces Gorilla Glass 6 is currently being evaluated by multiple customers and expected to reach the market in the next several months.
