We have seen a lot of new smartphones launched this year, and almost all of them came up with a notch on top of the screen. So your dream of having a smartphone with very narrow bezels and front entirely dedicated to the panel will ever come to reality?
You asked for it and there’s is one OEM who listened to it.
Oppo is the manufacturer who lately unveiled a device – dubbed as Oppo Find X– which comes with a new pop-up mechanism and the front of the phone is entirely dedicated to the OLED panel and very thin bezels.
At first glance, you won’t see any camera sensor but when you click on the camera app to click a picture, a slider will pop-up which has the three cameras mounted – dual cam on the back, single on the front.
There isn’t any fingerprint reader on the board as the phone relies on its 3D facial scanning for secure locking. Unlocking the device will require the system to slide out, look at your face and unlock the phone, then slide back in. The mechanism is motorized and can pop up in half a second.
Now you people might be wondering about the durability of this slider. Commenting on this, the Oppo says that the pop-up slider is tested to 300,000 slides, and on average person unlocks their phone 100-150 times a day. So there shouldn’t be any durability worries for at least five years.
The device packs all the features which you would expect from today’s flagship smartphone. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
On the front there’s a 6.4” OLED panel (1080p+ resolution) with very narrow bezels, even the chin is barely there. The official screen to body ratio is 92.25%.
Camera setup includes a 16+20MP rear sensors and a 25MP selfie shooter which can also create “3D AI selfies”.
Android Oreo v8.1 comes pre-installed Color OS 5.1 on top of it. To keep the lights of the device on the company has embedded a hefty battery pack of size 3,730 mAh with VOOC fast charging.
The device will be officially sold in Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands for €999 starting in August.
