Huawei Honor Play Goes Official In China; Honor 9i Also Unveiled Alongside

Meet Huawei’s Honor brands affordable gaming handset which was recently unveiled in China – Honor Play.

The handset carries a price tag of CNY 2,000 (which according to current transaction rates translates into $310/€265). It is embedded with HUAWEI Kirin 970 (Kylin 970) processor backed by Mali-G72 MP12 graphics.

The front side of the device includes a 6.3” screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio and 1,080 x 2,280-pixel resolution. The company’s Histen audio tech is used to provide 3D game sounds and 7.1 channel virtualization.

Memory section for the device includes 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The 6GB RAM variant will cost you at CNY 2,400 ($375/€320). To keep the lights of the device on the company has embedded a 3,750 mAh battery.

You can expect all the latest optimization as it will be the first Honor to ship with Android 8.1 Oreo and EMUI 8.2 out of the box.

The rear side of the device includes a vertical dual camera setup – a 16 MP + 2 MP dual sensor with recognition for over 500 scenes, powered by the NPU, Kirin’s AI core. On the front, there is a 16 MP selfie camera which does 3D portrait lighting, similar to the iPhone.

Pre-order of the device has already commenced with actual sales to start on June 11. Black and Violet, plus Black and Red special edition are the color options to choose from.

Honor 9i

Alongside Honor Play, a device with smaller screen size but with same aspect ratio and resolution was also launched. The device is known as Honor 9i and is powered by a Kirin 659 chipset, which also features GPU Turbo tech, making it suitable for gamers on a smaller budget.

Memory section for this device includes 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB variant with price tags of CNY 1,400 ($220/€185) and CNY 1,700 ($265/€225) respectively. Charm Blue, Dream Purple, Jasper and Magic Night Black are the color options to choose from.

Honor 9i

Camera section for this device includes a 13 MP + 2 MP dual camera on its back with Portrait mode and a 16 MP front camera with AI-powered selfie enhancements and face unlock.

To keep the lights of the device on the company has embedded a 3,000 mAh battery. The device comes with the older Android 8.0 Oreo and EMUI 8.0 out of the box.
