We can bet that you and your geeky heart is probably jumping in anticipation of the new smartphones, next-gen wearables, and tablets that the attending giant companies are to unveil during the MWC 2016 event. But what exactly are Samsung, HTC, SONY, LG, and the rest expected to show off.
In this article we’ll summarize all that we know about MWC 2016 and what we can expect from this trade show:
Samsung officially confirmed that it will introduce its next Galaxy flagship S7, during an Unpacked event on February 21. As per the recent rumors and reports suggest S7 will house a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution, a Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 chipsets depending on the version, 4 gigabytes of RAM, a 12MP BriteCell camera unit on the back, and a 3,000mAh battery to keep the lights running.
Alongside the S7, we should most certainly witness the debut of the Galaxy S7 edge. This one supposedly boasts a 5.5-inch display (larger than S7) and shares the same hardware setup as the Galaxy S7, but its battery is said to have a capacity of 3,600 mAh.
Samsung is also expected to come up with its new 360-degree VR camera that will allow developers to create virtual reality experiences for the Samsung Gear VR headset. The device is said to be a “compact spherical camera” making use of two 180-degree fisheye lenses that together create 360-degree imagery.
LG will announce a “major smartphone” at MWC 2016- company officially confirmed this. No surprises here- it will be LG G5, the South Korea-based OEM confirmed this lately. The company will announce its next-gen G series smartphone on February 21.
The LG G5 is rumored to house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, a 5.3 to 5.6-inch Quad HD display, 4 gigs of RAM, a dual rear camera setup (16MP + 8MP), iris scanning biometric security and will have a metal body.
We have already seen smartphones with optical security but we are eager to see what LG could potentially make of it.
Last year was not great for the Taiwan-based HTC but we are looking forward to see what the once-domineering Android OEM has been prepping for us. Like Samsung, HTC might unveil its next flagship smartphone the HTC M10, but the rumor mill claims that we might not see that device in Barcelona. HTC is said to be prepping a dedicated March Event for its next flagship device.
But nothing’s official now, so there’s a pretty high chance that the HTC M10 might see the light of day at MWC 2016.
The China-based Huawei which is one of the technical company leading in mobile phones products all over the world. Last year’s Google Nexus device was manufactured by Huawei , which was one of the best smartphones of 2015.
According to the latest report, Huawei is expected to unveil four version of the Huawei P9 this year and from this we can easily deduce that at least one of them will be announced at MWC 2016, right? Wrong! It seems that Huawei is prepping its own event in March and will announce some of its products then.
What Huawei P9 will pack? As per the rumor mill suggests P9 will feature a 5.2-inc display, Kirin 950 chipset paired with 4 gigs of RAM, and a 3,000 mAh of the battery to keep the lights running. Camera section will include a 12MP snapper while the secondary shooter might capture depth information. And the device might pack a front-facing fingerprint scanner.
So does this mean that we won’t see a new device from Huawei in Barcelona? Well, mostly yes- nothing certain have come across for the trade show.
Sony is of one of the OEM which surprises us every time, but we don’t expect to see the next-gen Z series smartphone at MWC 2016. Instead, we feel that a tablet might be on the way. Sony has a history of announcing tablets during MWC. If you remember back at MWC 2014, company unveil the Xperia Tablet Z2 and last year at MWC 2015 the Z4 tablet was announced.
Yup, you read it right, Xiaomi will indeed be present at MWC 2016. This mobile conference is the perfect stage to show the Xiaomi Mi5.
From past month Xiaomi Mi 5 has leaked extensively, we have seen numerous leaks, leaked pics and rumors. As you can see in the above-depicted pic, the device will arrive with a physical home button with an embedded fingerprint scanner, as well as what seems to be a glass-metal design.
The device might feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and at least 3 gigs of RAM. A 5.2-inch 1080p or 5.3-inch Quad HD display complete the rumored specs sheet of the handset.
